DTSA serves as the U.S. Government’s premier resource of technical expertise by assessing the military significance, technology security concerns, and potential harm to national security associated with the unlawful or unauthorized export of controlled defense articles, services, and technology.  DTSA conducts technology security reviews of export violations of the Arms Export Control Act (Voluntary Disclosures or Directed Disclosures) referred by the Department of State.  DTSA coordinates the disclosures with the Military Departments to determine the potential impact on U.S. national security and provides the Department’s assessment to the Department of State.

DTSA provides recommendations for industry, the U.S. Government interagency, our international partners, and DoD stakeholders to mitigate risk of non-compliance with export control laws and regulations.  DTSA supports law enforcement activities by providing subject matter expertise to the Department of Justice across the all categories of export-controlled hardware, software, and technology and expert witness testimony on their military significance.
