[close] I thought it would be fun to create a local book club that meets once a month and is focused entirely on the works created by POC. I would like the book club to be a safe space for POC's to discuss and share their favourite pieces of literary work written by voices that are not commonly found in the mainstream. This does not have to be limited to fiction, but can include poetry, essays, memoirs, travel books etc. Please drop me an email/facebook message/text if interested!

[close] We're here because we like reading and we like chatting about reading. But we are here especially because we strongly believe that reading is not just something we do alone, but something that can unite people of different kinds, all over the world! This group really is all about books! In terms of group reads we have a monthly fiction book and a bi-monthly group read of a classic. Quarterly there is a group discussion of a play, a seasonal author for poetry and fiction as well as a non-fiction - theme. We also have weekly poetry postings (the Monday Poem). We feature a yearly challenge and theme challenges in which members are encouraged to read books that relate to a specific theme, and dedicated sections for non-fiction, poetry and drama. [close] We are a physical group of poetry inquirers, meeting six times a year at Village Lights Bookstore in historic Madison, Indiana, situated on the Ohio River midway between Cincinnati and Louisville. In a relaxed, informal setting, Village Lights Poetry Café approaches poetry one poet at a time. The artistry of each poet is interwoven with their life, their time, and their world. The Café explores this with coffee, insightful conversation, and even a few poems. The actual (physical) meeting events will be posted here.
