Schkade Named To C-USA All-Academic Team

May 10, 2016

IRVING — On the eve of the Conference USA Tournament in Denton, junior Kelli Schkade was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team. She joins 11 other players on the 2016 Conference USA All-Academic Team, as selected by the league's sports information directors.

To be eligible for placement on the team, student-athletes must have achieved a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, at least a sophomore standing and have competed in at least 60 percent of games this season as a starter or key reserve.

Schkade was named to her first all-academic team with a 3.882 grade point average in kinesiology and becomes the fourth different student-athlete to earn the honor under head coach Tracey Kee, joining Ashley Kirk in 2013 and Madison Thompson and Karly Williams in 2014.

A two-time Conference USA Academic Medal winner, two-time Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll award winner and an NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honoree for the 2014-15 academic year, Schkade has been a model of excellence on and off the diamond for the Mean Green.

The Albany, Texas, native started all 55 games, including 54 games at shortstop, and was a two-time Conference USA Co-Player of the Week selection this season. She led Conference USA in runs scored (52), total bases (127) and slugging percentage (.713) and tied for the league lead in home runs (13). She also ranked third in on-base percentage (.471) and fourth in batting average (.393).

She tallied a hit in each of the first 19 games, breaking the school record for the longest hitting streak and hitting a team-best .418 with eight multi-hit games during the 19-game stretch, and also broke the single-season school record with 52 runs scored and tied the school record with 16 doubles.

One of team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representatives, Schkade has also helped lead community outreach with New Hope Equine Assisted Therapy, Operation Christmas Child and The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program.
