Men's Golf Earns At-Large Bid To NCAA Tucson Regional

The North Texas men's golf team earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tucson Regional - May 16-18 at the Gallery Golf Club.

DENTON -- The North Texas men’s golf team received an at-large bid into the 2016 NCAA Regional for the second time in school history under head coach Brad Stracke and will be participating in the Tucson regional May 16-18 held at the Gallery Golf Club, announced by the NCAA on Thursday morning live on the Golf Channel.

“I am very excited and proud of my team for making the West Regional in Tucson, Arizona,” head coach Brad Stracke said. “We have a very talented bunch of players and I believe they will perform at a very high level this post season.”

It marks the fifth NCAA regional appearance under Stracke and the 35th all-time in the history of the program. The Mean Green were ranked No. 62 in the nation according to Golfstat.com rankings and were able to receive one of 41 at-large bids.

The three-day event will take place at Gallery Golf Club which has hosted the 2008 WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship won by Tiger Woods.

North Texas is coming off a third-place finish at the Conference USA Championship before falling in the semifinals of match play to eventual champion LA Tech.

Fourteen teams, including nine in the top-50, will be competing for the right to advance to the NCAA Championship hosted by Oregon on May 27- June 1 at Eugene Country Club. The top five teams at each regional will advance to the next round.
