Kathleen Hobson, assistant director of UNT Pride Alliance, has been chosen to serve on the Board of Directors of Black Tie Dinner for a two-year term.

Founded in 1982, Black Tie Dinner is a nonprofit organization that raises funds for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender supportive organizations that serve the North Texas region. Proceeds from the annual Black Tie Dinner, which is scheduled for Oct. 1, are sent to the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the dinner’s national beneficiary, and up to 20 organizations located in the North Texas region. During the past 33 years, Black Tie Dinner has distributed nearly $21 million.

Hobson is serving on two Black Tie Dinner committees — the Auction Committee, which organizes both a live luxury auction and a silent auction that take place during the dinner, and the Community Relations Committee, which reviews and selects beneficiaries and works with them throughout the year to support them.

Hobson joined the UNT staff in June 2014 as the student services coordinator for Pride Alliance, becoming assistant director in September 2015. She is the advisor to GLAD: UNT’s Queer Alliance and a member of the American College Personnel Association Coalition for LGBT Awareness, currently serving as the coalition’s vice chair of networking.
