UNT to host Art + Science Evening Rendezvous!

What: Art + Science Evening Rendezvous!

When: 5:30 p.m. March 30

Where: University Union, Ballroom 314C

The Art + Science Rendezvous is a discussion forum that provides a snapshot of the cultural environment of our region and fosters interdisciplinary networking. The event — sponsored by UNT's College of Visual Arts and Design, Department of Design and Office of Research and Economic Development —will offer a lively and engaging evening for guests to explore what happens when art and science collide! 

The event is open to the public and free refreshments will be provided. Community Partners include Dallas Contemporary, the Business Council for the Arts, and Debbie & Charles Stafford.

Ira Greenberg: Director of the Center of Creative Computation and Professor of Computer Science and Engineering, Southern Methodist University

Ruth West: Artist + Researcher, Director of the xREZ Art + Science Lab and an Associate Professor at UNT

J.D. Talasek is director of Cultural Programs of the National Academy of Sciences (CPNAS) and creator and moderator for the salon DC Art Science Evening Rendezvous (DASER), a monthly discussion forum on art and science projects in the national capital region and beyond held at NAS. He is currently on the faculty at Johns Hopkins University, and he is the Art and Design Advisor for the National Academies Keck Futures Initiative (NAKFI) based in Irvine, CA. Janeil Engelstad is the founding director of Make Art with Purpose (MAP), an organization that produces international projects in art, science, design and architecture and she is an Associate Artist at the Social Practice Art Research Center, University of California, Santa Cruz. She initiates interdisciplinary collaborations to produce multi-form projects that address social and environmental concerns. Ira Greenberg is the director of the Center of Creative Computation and professor of computer science and engineering at Southern Methodist University. He wrote the first major language reference on the Processing programming language, Processing: Creative Coding and Computational Art, (Berkeley, CA: friends of ED, 2007). Marco Buongiorno Nardelli is a UNT Distinguished Research Professor, computational materials physicist, a composer, flutist at the University of North Texas. Ruth West is a veteran creative catalyst and associate professor of library and information science at UNT. Her work envisions a future in which art-science integration opens new portals of imagination‚ creative expression‚ invention‚ knowledge‚ and communication across cultures to create solutions for our most pressing global problems.
