New training program designed to enhance supervisory skills

If you’re ready to strengthen and develop your supervisory skills, consider enrolling in the new Supervisory Building Blocks program. This free certificate program is offered in partnership with UNT leadership and the UNT System Talent Management team.

Curriculum is targeted to any new or experienced supervisor, manager or team leader who directly supervises team members and is responsible for day‐to‐day operational and functional processes. First‐time supervisors and supervisors new to UNT are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible after assuming their responsibilities.

The program is designed to build and refine understanding of the supervisory role through a focus on transactional and functional knowledge, Human Resources compliance and core supervisory competencies.

Curriculum includes these learning and development sessions:

  • Foundations of Supervision
  • Supervisor Communication Skills
  • Performance Management
  • Art of Successful Coaching
  • Facilitating Effective Performance Evaluations
  • Positive Approaches to Resolving Performance and Conduct Problems
  • Managing Leave and Attendance
  • Navigating ADA, FMLA, and Workers Compensation
  • Progressive Discipline
  • Effective Documentation
  • EEO Principles: Creating a Respectful Work Environment
  • Hiring Responsibilities

Participants will earn a certificate of achievement after completing 30 hours of training, including 12 foundation sessions and six hours of elective sessions over an 18-month period. Please note that this program is not the same certificate program previously offered at UNT and attendance at previous sessions cannot be counted toward the 30 hour requirement.

All sessions are held during university business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.), so please be sure to obtain supervisory approval before enrolling.
