Sheriff Lupe Valdez to speak at career fair April 7

UNT’s Pride Alliance is partnering with the Career Center and the University Libraries Public Services division to host the LGBTQIA Career and Resource Fair from 1 to 4 p.m. April 7 in the Willis Library Forum. The fair, titled “Equality in the Workplace,” will give members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual/ally communities, along with their supporters, the opportunity to meet with employers who value diversity in the workplace.

Attendees will hear from one such employer, keynote speaker Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez. Valdez, who has served in law enforcement for 35 years, was recently reelected to continue to represent her home state. As the only Latina and openly gay sheriff in the country, Valdez advocates for equality and fairness in career endeavors.

“I value individual diversity, and that means reaching beyond stereotypical views of individuals,” Valdez said. “I see diversity and inclusiveness as an essential part of our productivity, creativity, innovation and competitive advantage.”

In addition to hearing Valdez’s keynote speech, those who attend can network with industry leaders and will receive free headshots for LinkedIn profiles and professional use.
