How would you trade it for something else? I would just keep it and wear it when you are wearing other yellow gold jewelry, or you can give it to a DD or DIL some day.

Aww, my boyfriend and I loved Ben Folds in college. He performed in the Harvard Yard our senior year, it was the most perfect day. Then we broke up and it's still hard for me to listen to his songs!

More delays at LGA, shorter runway so they have to slow things down when it is low clouds. But if you leave JFK at the same time as a lot of international flights then the wait to takeoff can be long (but that may be factored into flying time)

I don't know about chip on their shoulder because they are totally different groups. In my opinion, the parents work harder during the day so we can leave at a decent hour vs the non parents socialize more and believe in face time so stay later

There's some of this in our social circle -- not outright malice, but a lot of the childfree organize events and trips assuming that people with kids can't or won't get a sitter, so they don't invite people with kids. We're always glad to get a sitter for an evening or drop DD at her aunt and uncle's for a weekend. I see why they don't broach the subject in general, because that's a good way to get some clueless parent to assume her 5-year-old is invited to an event that is supposed to be adults only (I saw it happen once, and then the parents wanted everyone to be quiet after bedtime and not say "fuck" all weekend). But it makes me a bit sad too sometimes.

That is ridiculous. I personally couldn't care less about sports, but you must be aware that many parents (including some wealthy parents) view achievement in sports as worthwhile in its own right. I went to boarding school and most of my classmates' parents had no trouble paying for college, yet encouraged their kids to succeed in one or more sports. Many also view it as character-building.

Yes, exactly. And it's obvious team sports teach lots of important lessons about things like humility and teamwork. OP's post is just plain wrong. Parents encourage/allow their kids to play sports because for a lot of kids, they're a great experience. I have one DC who does serious high school sports and one who doesn't. My kid who plays team sports wants to.

Here's an important lesson that I think you're learning about 20 years too late: you may think that you're the richest/prettiest/smartest person in the room, but there's always someone better. You can find the person who is better by finding the person who isn't impressed with themselves. You're welcome.

The application asks for a Rabbi for a reference. This is a serious place. If you have a good story, they will consider it but it is not a school for smart reform Jewish kids who are willing to "tolerate" the orthodox stuff for a while to get a good education. that they spot

I don't know if confrontation, however subtle, works in this case. I agree that in general, to stop a bully, you have to call them on it. But the power dynamic is different at work from, say, the schoolyard.

it's ok! you did your part to be genuine. she is a flake-o. or maybe you are a bad judge of character and she actually dislikes you for something from college? anyway, she is a waste. not worth being pissed.

Because I didn't want to be that kind of person. I was excited to run in to her, I knew her "text me" was BS but I thought I should try anyway.

I have acquaintances like this. Don't think any more about it. If you run into her again, you can decide if you want to play the little game of "Let's get together!" and then if she reaches out to you, decide if you want to go. Otherwise, it's just a pleasantry when people obligated to be more interested in each other's lives than a hi/bye.

That's why I asked below what type of person is he? If he just has a hard time with his feelings, I don't get why you are hung up on this? You made him sound like a jerk. If he does care, you talk to him & work with him on this. That's marriage.

Very close. DH knew and loved her too. I think the chips was not a conscious act but I still couldn't believe it.

Because eating chips even unconsciously when getting the news that someone has died is still hard to forget.

Did he just continue eating the chips or did he just not hear you the first time? Because my DH would just not hear me the first time. Also, men aren't necessarily demonstrative, they don't really do well with grief

He more likely heard your voice but was focusing on the TV. Unless your DH sits like a zombie eating chips out of a bag while not looking at anything else.

What's going on today? Honestly, men are not fantastic caretakers. They just aren't. There is a fantastic recent reddit thread which asked men what they want women to know about men that they don't know ... the overall conclusion after reading thousands of comments is that men themselves admit they are super simple creatures of habit, comfort and avoidance of drama. They don't do "my grandma just died HOLD ME" unless you literally tell them that's what you want.

My husband became furious with me when I didn't console him about his grandmother's death. She lived in another country and he'd never met her. No letters, calls, nothing.

I'm saying all the current liberal "initiatives" are reliant upon surrounding minorities with white people in order to improve minority performance/outcomes. Look at Julian Castro at the Housing department. His entire strategy is to increase section 8 vouchers and push sec. 8 holders into white areas. But as I noted, there aren't enough whites to go around anymore, and we're going to see some interesting clashes between different nonwhite groups over this stuff.

that's not exactly true. there are some desegration programs for housing, like inclusionary zoning and section 8, but that reality is that is a minority of programs. most affordable housing is still concentrated in low income, mostly minority areas in nyc. same with schools. there are still lots of programs to build more housing and improve schools in predominantly minority areas. It's important to have a mix of both types of programs.
