Middle Tennessee Holds off NT Volleyball, 3-1




Murfreesboro, TN (10/14/05) Three North Texas players registered kills in double figures, including a double-double by Katy Prokof, but Middle Tennessee held off the Mean Green for a 3-1 victory in volleyball action on Friday night.

 

North Texas (8-14, 2-3 Sun Belt) dropped its third straight conference game, while Middle Tennessee (20-2, 5-1 Sun Belt) won its 20th game of the season.

 

The Mean Green won the third game, 30-22, behind a .239 hitting percentage. MT outhit North Texas in the first two games and the fourth for the victory. North Texas kept it close in the first two games, losing by scores of 34-32 and 30-27.

 

Tara Hooser led the North Texas offense with 16 kills, while Katy Prokof recorded 13 kills and 12 digs. Freshman Catherine Coffey was close to a double-double with 11 kills and nine total blocks. Coffey led the team with a .409 attack percentage.

 

North Texas was strong at the net again, outblocking MT. The Mean Green recorded 12 total blocks, including three solo blocks by Coffey.

 

Sophomore Ashley Bass dished out 48 assists, and Jessica Hulsebosch led the defense with 27 digs.

 

North Texas returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 15 when it faces Western Kentucky at 2 pm in Bowling Green.
