DENTON — North Texas volleyball junior Amy Henard has received the Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service award, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Henard was one of 14 student-athletes from the conference to receive the honor for the first semester of the 2015-16 academic year. The honorees - chosen to represent each C-USA institution - are selected based on significant community service, good academic standing and participation in their elected sport.

“It means a lot to represent North Texas for an award like this,” Henard said. “I love doing things for others and giving back to the Denton community for the support they have given me and other North Texas athletes. There is a lot of extra time and work put into being a student-athlete but I have to thank the community, academic and athletic programs for giving us these opportunities.”

In just under three years on the North Texas campus, Henard has made waves in every facet of her involvement. The former C-USA all-freshmen team selection sports a 3.84 GPA in the classroom while studying biology and chemistry. She is a two-time member of the league’s all-academic team, as well as a two-time recipient of the C-USA Academic Medal.

Henard spends her time away from the court and classroom participating in various roles throughout the community, from serving as the community service chair on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to volunteering at the Denton ISD Meet and Greet and National Girls/Women in Sports Day. Additionally, she has organized events for National Student-Athlete Day in each of the past two years.

A co-captain on this year’s squad, Henard racked up 1,065 assists for the Mean Green in 2015, earning a C-USA weekly award and all-tournament accolades at the Oklahoma Nike Invitational during the season. With a year of eligibility remaining, the Weatherford, Texas, native’s 3,408 assists is already good for fourth in North Texas history.
