North Texas Track & Field Heads To Baylor Invitational This Weekend

DENTON -- The North Texas track and field teams head to the Baylor Invitational for a one-day meet Saturday, April 9 at the Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium in Waco.

The meet will feature top athletes from Baylor, Fresno State, South Florida, Arkansas State, Cal State Northridge, Texas Southern, Tulane, UT-Arlington, Texas State, Prairie View A&M, Oral Roberts, Tulsa and Houston.

The first field event of the meet will be the men’s and women’s hammer throw followed by the Javelin. The running events will kick-off for North Texas in the 4x100-meter relay.

The Mean Green will have five competitors in the women’s 100-meter dash with seniors Nadiyah El-Amin (11.94) and Mona Landry (11.83) leading the way. Sophomore Siara Obasuyi has a top time of 11.90 set at the TCU Invitational on March 18.

In the men’s 100-meter dash, six student-athletes will be competing with freshman Justin Joe (10.54), junior Collin Heard (10.58) and senior Kendron Sowells (10.64) posting top times.

El-Amin will also be competing in the women’s 200m after posting a 24.57 time at the TCU Invitational. Nine North Texas runners will compete in the men’s 200m with Heard (21.05), Joe (21.42) and senior Connor Bey (21.34) hold the top times.

Senior Chastity Stewart is hoping to build upon her successful showing at the Texas Relays and will compete in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles this weekend.

In the distance events, Kylee Kittrell, Brittany White and Susie Kemper will take part in the women’s 800-meter run. On the men’s side, freshman Michael Johnson, sophomore Zach Kirkland and senior Troy Taylor will take part in the 800m.

Seniors Kaitlyn Newton and Yvette Hernandez will compete with teammate freshman Cassidy Adams in the women’s 3000 meters. In the men’s 3000m, junior Cody Campbell and freshmen Kyle Maloney, Ethan Davis will hope to earn top times.

Senior throwers Victoria Clark and Ngozi Nweke will both compete in two events this weekend. Clark will be taking part in the shot put and hammer throw. Nweke will be in the discus and hammer throw.

In the men’s hammer throw, senior Riley Donovan and sophomore Kevone Kennedy will look to continue their solid seasons. Both will also compete in the men’s discus as Kennedy (51.07m) and Donovan (46.24m) have set personal bests.

Senior Eddie Wilcox will be looking for his sixth men’s high jump first-place finish with the event starting at noon on Saturday.
