Join your friends in Taos, relax in the tranquility of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, learn from distinguished University of North Texas faculty and alumni, and be inspired by the art and history of the West.

Overview

The historic Fort Burgwin will be our base as we explore local archaeological sites with Dr. Mike Adler, Executive Director of Fort Burgwin, and Dr. Reid Ferring, Professor of Archaeology at the University of North Texas. Discuss Native American art and rugs with local gallery owner, Ray Trotter, and visit the Harwood Museum with the Curator of Education at the Meadows Museum and University of North Texas alum, Scott Winterrowd.  Faculty will lead field trips to sites including Pot Creek Pueblo, ancestral home of the Taos and Picuris pueblos, and a tour of the geology and art-inspiring landscapes of the Upper Rio Grande Valley. Enjoy s’mores by the fire in the cool mountain air as you discuss the topics of the day from petroglyphs to paintings. Take hikes through the forest to see more of the pristine natural setting and make merry with Halloween festivities in Taos at the end of your visit.
