Mean Green Sweep C-USA Swimming & Diving Weekly Awards

Feb. 9, 2016

IRVING, Texas — The honors continue to roll in for the North Texas swimming and diving program this season, as the Mean Green swept the season’s final Conference USA Swimming and Diving Awards. Freshman Rebekah Bradley won her second consecutive Conference USA Swimmer of the Week award, while junior Samantha Scheck won her first career Conference USA Diver of the Week award.

It’s the school’s first sweep of the league’s weekly awards this season and the second in school history. The program has claimed three Conference USA Swimmer of the Week awards, all in the last four weeks, and two Conference USA Diver of the Week awards. Bradley is the first repeat honoree this season and the second in school history, joining Krista Rossum, who earned league honors twice last season.

The reigning Conference USA Swimmer of the Week, Bradley posted a pair of NCAA B time standards this past weekend at the SMU dual meet and SMU pre-conference time trial event in Mansfield. The Auckland, New Zealand, native picked up her ninth first-place finish in four meets and posted her first NCAA B time standard (1:58.03) in the 200-yard backstroke. At the pre-conference time trial, she posted another NCAA B time standard with a time of 54.49 in the 100-yard backstroke.

Bradley holds the team season-best time in the 50-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke. She’s also the second-fastest swimmer in school history and the second-fastest swimmer in Conference USA in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke.

After just missing an NCAA zone qualifying score on the 1-meter against TCU, Scheck swept the diving events against SMU with a first-place finish in both the 1-meter (235.72) and 3-meter competition (237.22). Her scores were the third-best and sixth-best, respectively, by a North Texas diver this season.

The Conroe, Texas, native, is also the team’s best performer on both boards and the league’s fifth-best on the 1-meter and seventh-best on the 3-meter.

North Texas finished the dual-meet portion of its season with a 7-4 record and a winning percentage of .636, tied for the second-most wins and the second-best winning percentage in school history. They return to action in two weeks, when they travel to Atlanta to compete in the Conference USA Championships that begin on Wednesday, Feb. 24.
