Dean's Welcome Message

Thank you for your interest in the College of Music at the University of North Texas, one of the nation’s finest comprehensive music schools. North Texas graduates are exceptionally accomplished, and are consistently competitive at the highest levels of their chosen professions. Leading opera companies, symphony orchestras, military bands, recording studios, educational institutions ranging from elementary school through graduate programs, and churches regularly engage musicians who have studied at UNT.

We have a full-time resident faculty of over one hundred outstanding and internationally recognized performers, composers, scholars, and researchers, who are dedicated to teaching the highly diverse student body that is assembled at UNT, whether that teaching occurs in private lessons, large or small ensemble settings, or in the classroom. The University community and College of Music students also have access to internationally recognized guest artists and scholars through master classes, lectures, and special performances.

Our College is proud to be a vital component of the North Texas arts community, which includes Dallas and Fort Worth—both of which are less than an hour from our Denton campus. With these cities maintaining exceptional symphonies, opera companies, art museums, and professional choruses, as well as new and early music organizations, there is no doubt that the North Texas region is one of the most stimulating centers for the arts in the country. Our students are greatly enriched by having many opportunities as both participants and as audience members.

Although we are one of the country’s two largest music schools, it is characteristic of our College that we care deeply about the individual. In fact, our mission statement calls for us to provide an environment in which each student’s fullest potential may be achieved. We value our students, faculty, and staff and endeavor to create an environment known for its attention to the preservation of their professional health.

I hope that you will invest the time to learn more about us as you explore this website, listen to our streamed and recorded concerts, and visit us on campus.

Warren Henry, Interim Dean
