Communication Design Graduate Programs Coordinator, Design Research. Oversees learning experiences for MA and MFA candidates in Design Research, including the supervision of thesis and practicum projects. Teaches Design Research Methods, Interaction and User Experience Design, Critical Writing/Methods, Applied Design Research and Communication Design History. Co-coordinates sponsored design research projects on behalf of north Texas-based businesses, government and non-government orgs, communities/community groups and educational institutions.

Bio: 

Michael R. Gibson is a member of National Steering Committee for the Design Educators’ Community of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA). His articles on integrating and teaching others to integrate select design processes with emerging technologies to positively affect the design of complex information systems have appeared in journals such as Visible Language, Information Design Journal, The International Journal of the Humanities, Zed: A Journal of Design Thinking, Design Education in Progress and several others. He has also lectured widely and has operated a private visual and interaction design consultancy for over 20 years. Professor Gibson earned a BFA in Graphic Design at the Kansas City Art Institute and holds an MFA in Graphic Design from the University of Michigan. As a design researcher, he has confronted issues involving children’s health and education, urban revitalization, and the development of interactive, visual communication systems.
