This scholarship is open to journalism majors intending to enter print journalism in news editorial, advertising or photojournalism.

Riley Cross was the publisher and owner of the Denton Record-Chronicle from 1945 to 1970. Mr. Cross’ wife, Vivian Cross, and son-in-law, Fred Patterson, also served as publishers of the newspaper. Mr. Cross’ oldest grandson, Bill Patterson, is currently publisher of the Denton Record-Chronicle and another grandson, Riley Cross, is employed at the newspaper.
