Conference USA Championships Day 2 Results 
ATLANTA -- The North Texas swimming and diving team took sole possession of fourth place after day two at the Conference USA Championships in Atlanta. Day two featured five events, and North Texas had three swimmers and divers compete in the evening "A" finals and seven others in "B" finals, all scoring points for the Mean Green.
In the morning preliminaries, freshman Sara Whelan posted the fifth-fastest time (4:55.29) in the 500-yard freestyle, while fellow freshman Rebekah Bradley posted the seventh-fastest time in the 50-yard freestyle, both advancing to the "A" final.
Sophomore Sarah Vaisse just missed advancing to the "A" final in the 200-yard individual medley, posting the ninth-fastest time of 2:04.54, while freshman Brittany Thurstin (23.60), sophomore Isabelle Morris (23.68) and senior Bianca Bocsa (23.74) all finished in the top 16 of the 50-yard freestyle to advance to the "B" final of the event.
In the first event of the evening finals, Whelan posted the best finish of the day, clocking a time of 4:53.12 to finish fourth in the 500-yard freestyle. Her time also makes her the eighth-fastest performer in the event in school history.
Sophomore Barbara Wasilewska won the "C" final of the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 17th place overall with a time of 4:58.21. Vaisse won the "B" final of the 200-yard individual medley, placing ninth overall with a time of 2:01.95, becoming the second-fastest performer in the event in school history.
Bradley finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.31. With her time in the finals, Bradley also became the second-fastest performer in the event in school history, and the time is the third-fastest in school history.
The "B" final of the 50-yard freestyle had a strong North Texas flavor, as Thurstin took third (11th overall) in the race, followed by Bocsa in fifth (13th overall) and Morris in sixth (14th overall), all scoring points for the Mean Green. To conclude the day in the pool, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Bradley, Bocsa, Thurstin and Morris finished fifth with a time of 1:34.39, the seventh-fastest time in the event in school history.
Competing on the boards for the first time this week, junior Samantha Scheck posted the the seventh-highest score of the preliminaries (229.60) and advanced to the "A" finals of the events.
In the evening finals, Scheck placed eighth with a score of 228.55. Senior Jasmine Abercrombie led a trio of divers in the "B" finals, finishing 10th overall with a score of 243.65, followed by freshman Averie Ruiz in 12th place (209.35) and sophomore Cecilia Hernandez in 15th place (180.10)
With two days left in the Conference USA Championships, North Texas sits in fourth place with 160 points. Florida International remains atop the leaderboard with 339 points. Marshall is in second place with 222 points, followed by Rice in third place with 203 points. Florida Atlantic sits in fifth place with 149 points, and Old Dominion rounds out the team standings in sixth place with 116 points.
Tomorrow's third day of competition will begin with preliminaries that begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by the finals that begin at 5 p.m. The schedule of events includes the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, one-meter diving and the 400-yard medley relay.
