Hershel M. Anderson, Professor Emeritus of accounting and alumnus, died on Dec. 26.
After Anderson served two tours in the U.S. Armed Forces, he earned his B.B.A. from North Texas with the honor of being the Outstanding Accounting Graduate of 1954. He received an M.B.A. degree in accounting from the University of Texas and his Ph.D. in accounting from University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
Anderson began his teaching career at the University of Texas at Austin, followed by 27 years teaching accounting in the business administration department at UNT.
He authored multiple professional articles and textbooks and co-authored Introduction to Taxation, which was one of the most widely used textbooks in the field for 25 years.
Anderson is survived by his wife, Elaine; three children, Becky Molidor, Roy Anderson and Beth Buchanan; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brothers, Phil, Joe and James.
