Deborah Brooks, orchestral excerpts (cello)

Deborah Brooks joined the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra in 1976 as a section cellist.  She became Associate Principal Cellist in 1983 and continued in that position until 1999.  She was the featured soloist with Bobby McFerrin, Bernadette Peters, and Mark O’Connor on the Fort Worth Symphony Pops Series. Although Ms. Brooks resigned her position in 1999 to expand her career, she rejoined the Fort Worth Symphony in 2010.

Brooks has been the solo cellist for Casa Mañana Musicals since 1981 and is in the core orchestra for the Dallas Summer Musicals.  She also performs Broadway National Tours for ATTPAC at the Winspear Opera House in Dallas.

Ms. Brooks has performed with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for their participation in the Bravo Festival in Vail, Colorado, for ten years, as well as an extra during their regular season in Dallas.

Brooks has performed extensively with local chamber organizations, such as, Voices of Change, Chamber Society of Fort Worth, among others, and was a founding member of the Spectrum Chamber Series in Fort Worth.

Brooks attended two summers at the Berkshire Music Center as a fellow at Tanglewood, where she had the opportunity to work under Leonard Bernstein and Seiji Ozawa, among other notable conductors, and perform with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  She won prizes both summers, including the Gregor Piatigorsky Award for Outstanding Cellist.  Brooks received her BM and MM in cello performance at UNT under the tutelage of Adolfo Odnoposoff.
