Three Mayborn School of Journalism alumni named 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalists

Kalani Gordon ('12), Melissa Broughton ('10) and Chip Somodevilla ('95), alumni from UNT's Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism, were named 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalists.

Gordon is a content editor for The Baltimore Sun. Members of The Baltimore Sun's breaking news team were named finalists in the Breaking News category for their coverage of riots following the death of Freddie Gray, who died while being transported in a police van.

Broughton covers crime and breaking news as a reporter for The Post and Courier in Charleston, S.C. The Post and Courier was recognized in the Breaking News category for its coverage of Walter Scott, an unarmed man who was shot by a South Carolina police officer.

Somodevilla is a Getty Images photographer based in Washington, D.C. He and his Getty Images colleagues were recognized in the Breaking News Photography category for their coverage of protests in Baltimore after Gray's death.
