What: The UNT HarpBeats, an ensemble of nine harpists who perform pieces ranging from Bach to the music of Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift, present an evening of modern and classical music.

Danilo Pérez, Panama 500, join One O'Clock Lab Band for annual Glenn E. Gomez Endowment concert 

The University of North Texas College of Music's One O'Clock Lab Band, directed by Jay Saunders, will perform with world-renowned pianist and composer Danilo Pérez at 8 p.m. on March 3 as part of the Mary Jo and V. Lane Rawlins Fine Arts Series and this year's Glenn E. Gomez International Artists Endowment for Jazz Studies visit.

Introducing Dr. Warren Henry, Interim Dean of the College of Music

Dr. Warren Henry is currently Professor of Music Education and Interim Dean of the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Dr. Henry received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Music Education from the Crane School of Music (Potsdam, NY) and his Ph.D. in Music Education from Michigan State University. He is an active clinician and researcher, and he has presented many sessions at national and international conferences. In 2009, Dr. Henry was named the Outstanding Alumnus of Michigan State University’s College of Music.


Orchestra Concerts- Something for Everyone!

With two full orchestras and visiting ensembles such as the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, the UNT College of Music has become a prime source of outstanding orchestral performances.

On Feb. 3, the UNT Symphony Orchestra will perform Gustav Mahler's large-scale Symphony No. 6 in A minor, sometimes referred to as his "tragic" symphony. Mahler's wife wrote at the time of its creation that it was his most personal work, saying both she and Mahler were moved to tears, "so deeply did we feel this music and the sinister premonitions it disclosed." Division of Jazz Studies Welcomes Guest Artists

Jazz lovers have an exciting spring in store as world-renowned artists join UNT musicians for unforgettable performances.

UNT's One O'Clock Lab Band will perform with Grammy-award winning pianist and composer Danilo Pérez on March 3 as part of the Mary Jo and V. Lane Rawlins Fine Arts Series. Pérez, who is this year's Glenn E. Gomez International Artists Endowment for Jazz Studies guest artist, will be a featured soloist for the first half of the concert. UNT Opera Celebrates Strong Women

The UNT Opera has chosen a theme of celebrating strong women for this season. "The Mother of Us All," a work that chronicles the life of Susan B. Anthony and her fight for women's suffrage is the centerpiece of the spring 2016 repertoire. The second collaboration between author Gertrude Stein and composer Virgil Thompson, this 20th century modernist opera features the UNT Opera and Concert Orchestra melding together both fictional and non-fictional characters from American History. Performances begin Feb. 26 and run through March 6.

The College of Music Mourns the Loss of Regents Professor Emeritus Cecil D. Adkins

Cecil D. Adkins (January 30, 1932 – November 4, 2015) was born in Red Oak, Iowa on January 30, 1932.  Adkins earned the BFA in organ in 1953 from the University of Omaha, the MM in theory in 1959 from the University of South Dakota and the Ph.D. in theory in 1963 from the University of Iowa.  His thesis was entitled “A Study of Chromaticism in the Works of Chopin.”  His dissertation was entitled “The Theory and Technique of the Monochord.”
