DENTON -- The North Texas men’s basketball team is hoping the fabulous Super Pit will provide a much needed spark Thursday, March 3 as they ride a four-game home winning streak against Old Dominion at 7 p.m.

With two Conference USA regular season games left, North Texas can climb as high as No. 7 but could drop to No. 12 with two losses. NT is 6-10 in league play and will face-off against ODU who is currently the fifth seed at 10-6.

The Mean Green started last week’s final road trip almost pulling off the upset at LA Tech falling in overtime, 73-62. North Texas had a two-point lead with 21 seconds left in regulation but couldn’t hold on to the win. In Saturday’s road finale against Southern Mississippi, NT came out flat and just couldn’t make a rally committing 15 turnovers in the loss. North Texas is 1-15 when an opponent outshoots them from the field. Sophomore Jeremy Combs picked up his 14th double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Carrington Ward scored a career-high 13 points off the bench, including 11 in the first half against the Golden Eagles. Freshman Ja’Michael Brown added 15 points off five of seven from downtown.

Combs leads the team in scoring at 15.7 points per game and in rebounding at 11.0 per game. The Dallas native is top-15 in nine different categories in the C-USA. Nationally, he is 23rd in double-doubles (14), 22nd in field goal percentage (60.1), 20th in offensive rebounds per game (3.66), 12th in rebounds per game (11.0) and 11th in total rebounds (320). Combs is closing in on a couple of North Texas single-season records sitting sixth best with 320 rebounds and seventh best in field goal percentage at 60.1.

Junior J-Mychal Reese is second on the team in scoring at 14.9 points per game and leads the team in assists at 3.8 per game (111 total). His 111 total assists is nine shy of 10th best in school history with at least three games remaining. Johnson is third at 14.4 points per game and has hit a team best 66 made three pointers. His 66 triples is currently tied for sixth best and is four away from being fourth all-time.

As a team, North Texas is 111th in the nation in field goal percentage (45.4), 14th in free throw attempts (774) and 61st in free throws made (493).

The Mean Green will take on Charlotte on Senior Day Saturday, March 5 at 7 p.m. inside the Super Pit.
