Application & Admissions

All admission requirements to the Toulouse Graduate School must be fulfilled including the application process for admission to graduate studies.

In order to be given full consideration for Teaching Assistantships and other rewards, your application packet needs to be complete by June 15 for Fall admission and by October 15 for Spring admission. The Department is often able to make admission decisions after those dates, but we strongly encourage applicants to submit all their materials as early as possible. Applicants will not be admitted in the Summer semester. Application packets will not be processed unless fully completed. A completed application packet must contain the following:

  1. Application
  2. Official transcripts
  3. Official GRE scores on file with the Graduate School
  4. Personal Statement

The personal statement is sent directly to the departmental graduate advisor and includes an explanation of the following: career goals, why you are pursuing a Master's degree, prior experience in the criminal justice field, prior research experience in criminal justice, and anything in your personal background that you deem relevant to your admission decision. Please send or email the personal statement to Dr. Adam Trahan (MSCJ-Advising@unt.edu).

Once the application packet is complete, the Department of Criminal Justice will make an admission decision. Admission decisions will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Minimum 3.4 GPA
  2. Satisfactory scores on the quantitative, verbal, and writing sections of the GRE.
  3. Personal statements must convey an ability to write on a level adequate for graduate work and should demonstrate professionalism and focus.
