A Message from Assistant Dean Harris

Courteney Harris

Welcome to the Office of Career and Professional Development.

Our goal is to provide access to seasoned legal professionals who will expose you to resources that will allow you to design a tailored career plan. We are here to offer resources that will help you to effectively utilize your law degree as you navigate a changing job market. The Office of Career and Professional Development will partner with students to facilitate the identification of professional interests and support the development of an individualized professional roadmap.

Students are encouraged to utilize the Office of Career and Professional Development’s individualized career counseling services. Programs offered throughout the school year are designed to expose students to a variety of career options and help you understand the importance of strategically navigating your professional path.

The Office of Career and Professional Development will build on the “practice-related competencies” you will gain throughout the curriculum, including writing, research, oral communication, problem-solving and negotiation, working in teams, knowledge of the business of law, and professional values. Further, experiences and knowledge you will gain through the Louis A. Bedford, Jr. Mentorship Program, the community engagement program, and upper-level practicum, clinics, and externships will serve as a foundation for professionalism throughout your law school and legal career.

We invite you to visit our office on the fifth floor. To provide optimal accessibility, the Office of Career and Professional Development will maintain day, evening and walk-in office hours.

We look forward to working with you.

Courteney Harris,
Assistant Dean for Career and Professional Development
