College of Music

George Papich received his formal musical training at the University of Michigan. His major teachers were Robert Courte and Mischa Mischakoff. He has had a variety of teaching experiences, both in public schools and universities, i.e. Brainerd Junior High School (Chattanooga, Tennessee), Trombley Elementary School (Grosse Pointe, Michigan), Northern Michigan University (Marguette, Michigan) and the University of North Texas (Denton, Texas). Dr. Papich has been principal violist in the Forth Worth Symphony, Dallas Opera, Dallas Lyric Opera, Dallas Ballet and the Chattanooga Symphony.

He has played chamber music throughout the United States and Europe. In Texas he often performed with Chamber Music International. In addition, Dr. Papich has been a member of the Seventh Army String Trio, the Fine Arts Piano Quartet, the Shiras String Quartet and the University of North Texas String Quartet. He was asked to represent the United States as a judge at the Evian String Quartet Competition. He has taught chamber music at the Manchester Music Festival the Killington Music Festival and the Carroll Glenn and Eugene List Institute during the summer.

Dr. Papich, at present, is Director of the Center for Chamber Music Studies at UNT where in the past he has been Coordinator of the String Department and of the Doctor of Musical Arts Program.

He was honored with the rank of Regents Professor at the University of North Texas.
