Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, 12 courses are required in order to complete a Master's degree in Library Science or Information Science (along with a few additional requirements). 

You must register for classes online at MyUNT.edu. This overview of UNT's registration process provides detailed guidance for registering.

You may need to release your Student Financial Obligation hold.  Go to: http://www.unt.edu/classes-registration.htm, see item 3 for details to release your holds.  

If you are on alert, probation, or suspension status, you are required to meet with your advisor in person to get your code. Advisors will not give out codes over the phone or via email. If you are a new student, you will need to attend orientation to get your code.

  • Maximum term unit load exceeded: You are trying to register for more than the maximum allowed course load for the semester. You will need to contact an advisor to obtain approval to take more than 19 hours in fall or spring and 12 hours in summer.
  • No valid registration appointment: It is not your time to register; check the Registration Calendar.
  • Requirement not met: You are trying to register for a course for which you have not met the prerequisites. To find out the prerequisites for courses, you will need to consult the Course Descriptions section of the Catalog. Please note that if you are a transfer student and have credit for the prerequisite from another institution, you may need to talk to the department that teaches the course to be added into the class.
