Final Results 

WACO -- Led by two first-places finishes and six podium places, the North Texas track and field teams continued their solid start to the outdoor season at the Baylor Invitational Saturday night.

“It was a good beginning to April’s competitions on our way to Conference USA championships,” head coach Carl Sheffield. “We had consistent performance from our upperclassmen: Eddie Wilcox and Chastity Stewart. Our upstart freshmen are starting to make an impact in Javier Lopez-Ibarra (Javelin) and Justin Joe (Sprints).”

Freshman Javier Lopez-Ibarra took home first place in the men’s javelin with a season-best throw of 60.26 meters (197-08 feet). Lopez-Ibarra’s throw was the fifth best all-time in school history and gave him his first title.

Senior Chastity Stewart finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.50 and was the first collegiate finisher in the event. Sophomore Chelsea Crayton ran a season-best time of 14.41 to finish in eighth place. Stewart came away with a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.44.

Senior Tori Clark had a solid second place finish in the women’s hammer throw with a season-best throw of 54.37 meters (178-04 feet). Senior Riley Donovan was third in the men’s hammer throw also setting a season-best throw of 56.23 meters (184-06 feet).

Senior Eddie Wilcox continued his fantastic senior season with another first-place finish in the men’s high jump earning his sixth title at 2.10 meters (6-10.75 feet).

Senior Magdalena Escobar finished third in the women’s 1500 meter run at 4:41.28. Junior Kylee Kittrell was sixth with a time of 4:48.09. Freshman Baylee Nelson finished 10th at 4:55.00.

Senior Troy Taylor finished third in the men’s 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.42.

The upcoming meets provide an opportunity to see people in their primary events,” added Sheffield. “Good, consistent weather should bring out the best in our athletes.”

-Junior Cody Campbell was eighth in the men’s 3000 meter run with a time of 8:48.32
-The women’s 4x400-meter relay team (Stewart, Rhenique Williams, Kennedy Knight, Elizabeth Osondu) finished fifth with a season-best time of 3:47.97

What's Next
North Texas will begin a split squad with the distance runners heading to California to take part in the Bryan Clay and Mt. SAC relays on April 14-16. The rest of the team will participate in the K.T. Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kansas on April 16.
