Biography

Dr. Teresa Lightner, Associate Professor of Accounting, has been a member of the College of Business faculty since 2008. Her educational background includes a BBA in Accounting and a MAcc in Taxation from the University of Oklahoma. She also received her Ph.D. in Accounting with an emphasis in taxation from the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Lightner is a member of the American Accounting Association and the American Taxation Association. She has served on many committees with both organizations.

Dr. Lightner specializes in teaching individual and corporate taxation as well as tax research. She has received several teaching and research awards. Her research interests concentrate on the tax effects of and stock market reactions to corporate payouts, such as dividends and stock repurchases. She also examines issues in state and local taxation. Dr. Lightner has published multiple articles in the leading journal in taxation, The Journal of the American Taxation Association, and other articles have appeared in Advances in Taxation, Issues in Accounting Education, and Journal of Taxation of Investments

Dr. Lightner has one son, Hunter, who attends UNT. In her free time, she enjoys running, snow-skiing, traveling, cooking, and gardening.
