Michelle Redmond is a Broadcast News Lecturer in the Mayborn School of Journalism. She teaches courses intermediate broadcast and web writing and media performance for TV and the Internet. Before becoming a full-time faculty, she taught media writing classes in the Mayborn as an adjunct instructor.

Degrees:

Redmond recently completed her MFA degree in Cinema-Television at Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas. Her 30-minute thesis documentary project is titled “Mondays at Minton’s.”

Bachelor of Arts in Speech Communications, Notre Dame College, South Euclid, Ohio.

Experiences:

Redmond joins the Mayborn School of Journalism after enjoying an adventurous, exciting career in both journalism and non-scripted taped or live feature programming.  Redmond was the education reporter at WFAA-TV Dallas-Fort Worth, an anchor/reporter at WCIV-TV in Charleston, S.C. and an anchor/reporter at KGGB-TV in Albuquerque, N.M.  She also has the distinction of executive producing two live, daily magazine style feature programs in the Dallas-Fort Worth market including Good Morning Texas at WFAA-TV (ABC affiliate) and Positively Texas at KTVT-TV (CBS affiliate).  Her career choices also resulted in trips to destinations throughout the country and many locations around the world.  Redmond was a producer/writer and member of the National Geographic Television launch team based in Washington, D.C.  She also worked for Discovery Studios, the in-house production department, as a producer-writer for several shows associated with Discovery Communications, i.e. Travel Channel, Military Channel, Discovery Health, and The Discovery Network.  Redmond also spent more than 10 years as a ‘go-to’ freelance field producer-director for The Oprah Winfrey Show.  She was a staff field director for The Tyra Banks Show and the Food Networks, Calling All Cooks.  She also spent a year freelance field producing-directing for the HGTV program, My First Sale.  While working in Hollywood, Redmond was a DVD bonus feature producer for the re-issue of three classic Alfred Hitchcock films, and a 25th anniversary re-issue of Ben-Hur.

More than 25 journalism awards, including three national Telly Awards.
