COLLEGE STATION -- Freshman Ian Snyman continued his outstanding campaign with a second round 67 to lead the North Texas men’s golf team into second place alone at the Aggie Invitational Saturday. Play was suspended due to darkness but the Mean Green was able to finish.

Six teams did not finish their second rounds, including 12th ranked Oklahoma State who is currently leading the Aggie Invite at two-under par. North Texas is sitting in second place at four-over par just six strokes off the lead.

North Texas came into the tournament ranked No. 68 in the country and is hoping to earn a bunch of key at-large points with eight ranked teams playing the Aggie Invitational (No. 12 Oklahoma State, No. 15 Oklahoma, No. 18 LSU, No. 23 Arkansas, No. 27 Texas A&M, No. 28 Baylor, No. 36 Texas Tech and No. 49 Kent State).

“The guys played well on a very demanding golf course today,” head coach Brad Stracke said. “We are looking forward to our final round tomorrow. Ian Snyman played solid the entire day.”

Snyman was a big reason for the Mean Green sitting in second place after two-round total of 137 (70-67) to lead the tournament field that includes 11 ranked players. In the second round 67, Snyman started on the 10th hole and shot an impressive 32 (four-under par) on his last nine holes. He leads the tournament with 12 birdies in his first 36 holes.

Sophomore Michael Cotton put together a solid two-round score of 144 to sit in a tie for fifth with scores of 69 and 75. Junior Cory Churchman bounced back with a second round 74 after a first round score of 76 to finish in a tie for 34th.

Junior Alejandro Villasana shot back-to-back solid rounds of 76 to sit in a tie for 42nd. Freshman Thomas Rosenmueller had a disappointing first round score of 80 but rebounded nicely with a one-over par 73 in round two to finish in a tie for 49th.

Play will resume at 7 a.m. and third round tee times have been pushed back 30 minutes to 8 a.m Sunday morning. Live scoring can be found at www.golfstat.com.
