Nominate students, faculty and staff for Honors Day awards

Feb. 5, 2014

The 2014 Honors Day celebration on April 4 — the 65th in UNT’s history — will recognize UNT students, faculty and staff who have been selected for awards by their departments, colleges and organizations.

Faculty and staff are encouraged to nominate their colleagues for four special awards, the Presidential Excellence Awards, presented during the ceremony.

Added this year is the Bob Rogers Service and Community Engagement Award, which will honor the faculty or staff member whose service brings out the best in both the UNT and Denton communities.

It is named for longtime member of the music faculty, Bob Rogers, who died last year. Rogers, a pianist, remained active both on and off campus, performing for multiple community events.

Nominations are due Feb. 28 for the Presidential Excellence Awards. Those awards include:

  • Bob Rogers Service and Community Engagement Award, which is given for volunteerism and community engagement. It may be expressed through a dedicated craft, passion or talent enjoyed by both the Denton and UNT communities, and the recipient must exhibit an attitude of selfless service. The award is $1,000.
  • The UNT Community Award, which honors students, faculty or staff for outstanding service to the UNT community. For students, the award honors outstanding care for others at UNT. The award includes a $250 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble at UNT for students and $1,000 for faculty and staff.
  • The President’s Award, which honors students, faculty or staff for making contributions that have brought significant recognition to UNT in alignment with the four bold goals. The award includes a $250 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble at UNT for students and $1,000 for faculty and staff.
  • Special Recognition Award, which honors students, faculty or staff for their long-term commitment to UNT or an unusual significant contribution in an area where no other award is given. The award includes a $250 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble at UNT for students and $1,000 for faculty and staff.
