Between the soccer team making the NCAA tournament and the football team making a mid-season coaching change the night of Homecoming, the year definitely had its highs and lows.

Here is that letter I submitted to Denton Record Chronical. " Many issues are on the line with our local elections: 1. Hawkins’ recall 2. The DME spending $240,000,000 on Gas Plants, that the incumbents support 3. An Ethics ordinance that Roden doesn’t care about 4. Johnson’s Buccees deal that’s estimated to increase traffic by 7,000-10,000 cars on Brinker road. There are better locations on the north part of town. I hope that people can see that the only way to achieve our best is to demand the best from those in charge of all aspects of our city. We have seen extreme involvement by those pushing for gas plant support. $12,000 was spent elsewhere for PAC mailers claiming ‘outsider influence’, by outside influences. They claimed of a connection to an organization that has no ties to local citizen activists or ‘naysayers’ as Burroughs has written. Such claims and labeling are a low attempt at dividing and disenfranchising civic involvement in our city government. Big business is driving local business out. There's smarter ways to invite large companies here without disrupting traffic and competing, local businesses. Demand better from DME! 97-100% renewable energy is possible. Massive wind farms are being completed all over Texas. Please consider these subjects while voting. If you don’t want gas plants, traffic nightmares and a lack of moral ethics, and better city planning, then vote new people in and vote yes on Hawkins’ recall. Leave the unopposed mayor vote blank. 1starPoor journalism. NT Daily can become a unique and different avenue for news, but they seem to be attempting to conform t...o the standards of many of the large and biased news outlets. Rather than report the news, they twist stories to make them seem more scandalous than in reality. They do not report news; they try to propagate fear and anger. I am not impressed by the quality of the articles in regards to both content and grammar.
I also find it funny that most of the 5 star reviews are from current/former NT Daily staff. See More

Feature writing in news stories, poor editing and the publishing of questionab le stories are just a few aspects of the paper that were not acceptable in past years, but that seem to be commonplac e now. I'm also curious as to why comments left on posts on the Daily's Facebook page are deleted? Perhaps reading the comments left by the student body and alumni would improve the quality of the publicatio n, provide crucial insight into what people want to read and also address and enhance the quality of the writing and editing. Instead of responding to comments in kind, they're deleted? How profession al is that? It's disappoint ing. See More

After months of debates, personality disputes and campaign fliers, the race for Denton City Council will likely end Saturday barring a runoff election.
Residents have already started voting, and early voting numbers will be available after 7 p.m. Soon after, the Denton County Election Commission will update its website as votes are counted.
