Governor names Kuehne to UNT System Board of Regents

Eernie Kuehne named to UNT System Board of Regents, 2013.Texas Gov. Rick Perry has appointed Ernie Kuehne, a University of North Texas alumnus and longtime Mean Green supporter, to the University of North Texas System Board of Regents. Kuehne’s appointment is effective immediately.

Commenting on the appointment, UNT System Chancellor Lee F. Jackson said, “Ernie Kuehne has a passion for education and for UNT.  He will bring to our board a career of successful leadership in law and banking, and we look forward to working with him.”

In August 2012, Kuehne chaired UNT’s Basketball Enhance Committee that raised more than $3 million in gifts for a new training facility, a new state-of-the-art scoreboard in the UNT Coliseum and additional funding for scholarships. As part of that campaign, Kuehne presented the athletic department with a cornerstone $1 million gift.

“I’m proud and honored to be named to the board of regents of my alma mater,” Kuehne said. “The University of North Texas had a profound influence on my life. Working with the other regents will give me the opportunity to continue giving back and helping others working to improve their futures through education.”

Kuehne is a native of Mart who earned track scholarship in 1962 and completed a bachelor’s degree at the university in 1966. He is a member of the UNT President’s Council, UNT McConnell Society and Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity Alumni Advisory Board, and a life member of the UNT Alumni Association and UNT Ex-Letterman’s Association.

Kuehne earned his law degree from Baylor University in 1969.

Kuehne is an attorney, and president and board chairman of Kuehne Oil Company. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas.

Kuehne is a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a volunteer for the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children and Greater Dallas Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.  He is also past chair of the Farmers and Merchants National Bank Board of Directors, past president of the American Junior Golf Association, and a past member of the Park Cities YMCA Sports Committee.
