Student newspaper's website hacked, may affect personal devices

Nov. 6, 2012

On Oct. 25, the NT Daily website was compromised by hackers who used this access to try to distribute viruses to the computers of website visitors. This code has the potential to allow the hackers to gain control over computers and the information stored in them.

UNT System Information Security recommends that all individuals who visited the NT Daily website from Oct. 25 through Nov. 1 through a non-UNT System network such as Charter, AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, etc. should ensure that their personal computing devices are installed with antivirus software.

UNT System institutions employ McAfee VirusScan software which is currently installed on institutionally-owned and managed computer workstations. In addition, a home use software license for McAfee VirusScan is available to faculty, staff and students and can be downloaded for free from the Information Security Antivirus Downloads website, http://security.unt.edu/antivirus.
