AUSTIN – The North Texas men’s cross country team continues to have a stellar season winning the UT Invitational taking down Texas who was ranked No. 31 in the nation Friday night. The women’s team bounced back with a third place finish.

“We wanted this head-to-head competition against Texas this week,” cross country coach Stefanie Slekis said. “We felt like this course setup well to our strengths. It is really nice to fall on the right side of the one point result. This is really good momentum going into the Pre-National meet.”

Sophomore Mike Lowe led the Mean Green with a third-place finish with a time of 25:25.40 falling just four seconds from first place. The New Zealand native felt right at home on the hilly course conditions that led to his best finish of the season.

“It was a pretty good course and It felt like the New Zealand courses I run back home,” said Mike Lowe. “The whole team stepped up really well as the plan was to come in and run as a pack. We are really hungry as a team to catch Texas and it was a great team result today.”

Junior James Coleman came in sixth place with a time of 25:34.40 in the 8,000 meter run. Senior Bryce McAndrew was three seconds after Coleman in seventh place at 25:37.30.
