Men’s Cross Country Completes Race At Pre-Nationals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Going against some of the elite teams in the country, the Mean Green battled but came up short finishing 38th at the Pre-National meet Oct. 17 hosted by Louisville. 

It was the second straight season that North Texas competed at the Pre-National race.

“It was a tough race for us,” cross country coach Stefanie Slekis said. “We didn’t run well as a group which led to a super high score. We can now focus on be rested and ready to go in two weeks for conference championships.”

The Mean Green were led by sophomore Mike Lowe who finished 120th with a time of 24:24.7 in the 8k race. Senior Troy Taylor came in 147th with a time of 24:38.2 and classmate Bryce McAndrew was 150th at 24:39.0. Junior Grady Frazier was 214th with a time of 25:01.3 and senior Silvester Harrison III finished the scoring at 224th in 25:03.6.

Colorado took home the team crown with a score of 89 followed by Oregon (151) in second, Arkansas (164) in third and C-USA rival UTEP (197) coming in fourth. Virginia Tech’s senior runner Thomas Curtin won the individual title with a stellar time of 23:18.2.

Next up for North Texas

The Mean Green will have two weeks to prepare for the Conference USA Championships hosted by Western Kentucky Oct. 31.
