Michael Collins, Professor Emeritus, College of Music

Michael Collins, prof emeritus, ObituaryMichael B. Collins, Professor Emeritus in the College of Music, died May 12 in Denton. He was 80.

Collins joined UNT in 1968 and taught musicology and music history for 33 years. He previously taught at the Eastman School of Music.

Collins received bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degree from Stanford University. He was a pianist who specialized in Baroque music and the history of opera. His many publications include the book Opera and Vivaldi, published in 1984.

He also served in U.S. Army intelligence in Germany during the Korean War.

Survivors include one sister, one brother, nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Contributions may be made in Collins’ memory to the College of Music.
