Green and White football game caps spring practice

Head Football Coach Dan McCarneyThe annual Green and White football game closes spring practice at 1 p.m. April 16. The game will be at Collins Stadium, a Denton ISD facility, and it is free and open to the public.

Head Coach Dan McCarney, above, will supervise the full scrimmage format, the final spring tune-up for the 2011 season. Spring practice began March 23, with practices scheduled early morning, evenings and Saturdays to avoid conflicts with classes.

Halfway through the spring season, McCarney said he was pleased with the team’s progress, citing improved fitness, better leadership and better understanding of plays. “They’re starting to figure out that this can be fun,” he said in an interview published on the Athletics website.

Faculty and staff may purchase season tickets for $115 per season ticket for up to four tickets, which is approximately a 23 percent discount for the same seats. The faculty and staff rate also applies to the ticket portion of Mean Green Club sections of the new football stadium.

“Because pride starts at home, I would love to see our students in the stadium joined by a legion of proud faculty and staff members,” said President V. Lane Rawlins

Faculty and staff may utilize payroll deduction to purchase season tickets.

The 2011 season begins Thursday, Sept. 1, with a game at Florida International. The first home game is Saturday, Sept. 10 versus the University of Houston, and will be the inaugural game in the new stadium.

Other home games are:

  • Sept. 24 – Indiana University (Family Weekend)
  • Oct. 8 – Florida Atlantic
  • Oct. 22 – Louisiana Monroe (Homecoming)
  • Nov. 19 – Western Kentucky (UNT Preview)
  • Dec. 3 – Middle Tennessee

McCarney joined UNT in November 2010. He previously coached at national champion University of Florida and was head coach at Iowa State University.
