Dr. Schaake has been selected for the 2016 National Academic Advising Association Outstanding Advising Award. She will be honored at the special Awards Ceremony and Reception at the annual NACADA Conference. Dr. Schaake is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences. One of our alums, Michael R. Galvan, is making a difference in education.

Michael is the Policy Director for the Mayor’s Office of Education under Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney where he’s working to develop plans to ensure Philadelphia’s youth have access to resources and supports through quality pre-K and community schools. He also works with the Department of Commerce, the Deputy Mayor for Labor and the School District of Philadelphia to develop a meaningful career pipelin...e for young adults.

Michael received his BA in May of 2011 from UNT (Major in PSCI, minor in ECON) and his MS (PSCI) in December of 2013 from UNT.

Part of UNT's Wingspan Week - 125 Celebration

Dr. Martinez-Ebers was awarded the Midwest Latino Caucus for Political Science Distinguished Career Award this past weekend at the Midwest Political Science Association Conference in Chicago.

This award recognizes a Latino/a or Latino Politics scholar who has made a substantial contribution to scholarship, who has made significant contributions to the profession and its associations, who has actively mentored scholars at her own institution or elsewhere, and who serves as a ...positive role model in the profession.

She was recognized with this award on a panel that included the top names in the field, such as Luis Fraga (Notre Dame), Rodney Hero (Berkeley), and Gay Segura (Stanford).

Dr. Martinez-Ebers is a professor in our Department of Political Science and the Latina/o and Mexican-American Studies Program Director.
