Division of Jazz Studies

The North Texas Jazz Nonet is a faculty ensemble in residence at the University of North Texas College of Music. The members are Mike Steinel, trumpet; Jim Riggs and John Murphy, saxophones; Tony Baker, trombone; Fred Hamilton, guitar; Rosana Eckert, vocal; Stefan Karlsson, piano; Lynn Seaton, bass; and Ed Soph, drums. The nonet performs standard jazz repertoire as well as original compositions by the members. The Jazz Faculty often play in trios, quartets, and quintets as well.

The group appears on and off campus several times each semester and is actively sought after to present concerts and clinics at high schools and colleges both nationally and internationally.
