The Office of Research and Economic Development promotes research, scholarship and creative activities that engage faculty, research scientists, students and external collaborative partners. The research office assists faculty through its divisions:

Bio Information
Dr. Tom McCoy has served Vice President for Research and Economic Development since July 2013 and is charged with expanding the university’s growth, breadth and impact in research as it seeks to become a Tier One research university. He also is carrying out UNT’s bold vision for economic development. He previously served as Vice President for Research, Creativity and Technology Transfer at Montana State University from 1998-2013, helping the university to reach the top tier of research universities. A distinguished plant scientist, Dr. McCoy previously served as Dean of the College of Agriculture and Director of the Agriculture Experiment Station at Montana State and as associate professor in plant sciences, department head and professor in the Department of Plant, Soil and Environmental Sciences at the University of Arizona. He also worked as a research geneticist at the U.S. Department of Agriculture Alfalfa Production Research Unit in Reno, Nevada.
