Interested in selling and owning properties? Want an occupation that allows you to set your own work schedule? Then you should pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Real Estate at the University of North Texas.

What we offer

UNT is one of the few universities in Texas that offers an undergraduate degree in Real Estate. In the Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law, we graduate experts who rent, buy and sell properties for clients as well as:

  • Accompany clients to potential property sites
  • Draw up real estate contracts
  • Interview prospective clients
  • Study property listings

In the Real Estate major, you can pursue a concentration and certification in Residential Property Management. This concentration, which focuses on the multifamily housing industry, is available at a limited number of universities. It’s been developed in consultation with the Texas Apartment Association.

In addition to being outstanding teachers, our faculty members are certified brokers, appraisers, right-of-way agents and consultants who remain current on trends and applications through research. They’ve written numerous articles and books in their area of expertise and incorporate their experiences and research into the course curriculum.

The North Texas Real Estate Club provides unique views on current events and networking opportunities. Other networking opportunities are available through the UNT Real Estate Alumni Association.

Scholarships sponsored by the department are available to help you pursue your education. Students have also earned scholarships from the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Commercial Real Estate Women Network.

A Living-Learning Community brings together business students who live on campus to enhance academic and social experiences.

The Transfer Student Learning Community allows transfer students to form strong bonds by taking several classes with a small group of business classmates.

The College of Business, which is one of the nation’s 20 largest business colleges, is accredited by AACSB International — The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (777 South Harbour Island Blvd., Suite 750; Tampa, Fla. 33602; telephone 813-769-6500). This distinction means it meets or exceeds high standards of excellence in education.

Our Business Leadership Building accommodates 8,000 students and promotes interaction among students, faculty and industry leaders. The building — which has Gold-level Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certification for sustainability — contains 24 classrooms, team study rooms and a state-of-the-art general access computer lab.

What to expect

As a Real Estate major, you’ll take courses in residential property management, appraisal techniques, investments in real estate, methods of financing commercial and residential properties, and real estate law. Other courses will focus on:

  • Property and liability insurance
  • Real estate brokerage
  • Risk and insurance management
  • Taxation
  • Urban economics and geography

Our Career Center, Learning Center and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources available to you at UNT. The Career Center can provide advice about internships, future employment opportunities and getting hands-on experience in your major. The Learning Center offers workshops on speed reading, study skills and time management. Academic advisors will help you plan your class schedule each semester.

High school students

We encourage you to fulfill the graduation requirements for the distinguished level of achievement under the Texas Foundation, Recommended or Distinguished Achievement high school program or the equivalent.

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses can count toward college credit at UNT.

Transfer students

If you're attending a Texas community college, you should consult our online transfer guides, the UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor or advisor to review your degree plan. Proper planning will allow you to receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.

Our Transfer Center will help you make a successful transition to college life at UNT by connecting you with a peer mentor and other campus resources. Each year, 3,900 students transfer to UNT. More information about the center is at transition.unt.edu.
