Your future in Engineering Technology

Do you always want to complete tasks faster, more efficiently or better than before? If so, pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology degree at the University of North Texas may be for you.

Engineering technologists use a variety of tools, such as modeling and simulation, to manage the complexity of computer chip design, software integration, bridge building and automation.

Many engineering technologists work side-by-side with other engineers and scientists in design, research and development. Others work in quality control, redesign or technology deployment. In manufacturing, they work in product design, development or production.

Because of the practical skills you gain with an Engineering Technology degree, our graduates are highly sought after in nearly every industry sector. Other graduates have enrolled in master's or doctoral programs in technical fields, business or law.

What we offer

In the Department of Engineering Technology, our curriculum applies current and emerging technologies to solve engineering problems. We emphasize learning through experience in every course and provide hands-on laboratory activities. This prepares you to be a productive citizen, leader and technological innovator in a global society.

You may pursue an ABET-accredited B.S.E.T. degree in:

• Construction engineering technology
• Electrical engineering technology
• Mechanical engineering technology

Research projects are determined primarily by short- to medium-term industry needs. You'll develop solutions to relevant industry problems by using advanced science, engineering and mathematics skills and known or emerging technologies.

Faculty-led research projects are funded by industry, state and federal agencies or foundations. They also provide research opportunities for undergraduate students. Our well-equipped laboratories give you the upmost in learning environments.

You can join other engineering technology students by participating in student chapters of the Association of Construction Engineering Technology or the Society of Automotive Engineers, among others. Participating in these organizations can also help you earn internships.

The College of Engineering also supports a Living-Learning Community, which brings together engineering majors who live on campus to enhance academic and social experiences.

Located four miles north of the main campus and serviced by a free shuttle, Discovery Park is a 300-acre research facility that contains the College of Engineering and the engineering technology department. The facility brings together academic laboratories, offices and classrooms to maximize the potential for creativity, collaboration and technology innovation. Our students prepare for exciting engineering careers that solve societal problems, advance technology and improve the quality of life for people everywhere.

What to expect

The curriculum is multidisciplinary and project-based. In your first year, you'll take math and basic science courses, including calculus and general chemistry. As you progress through the program, you can enroll in technical electives that provide an in-depth knowledge of your concentration.

In the Electrical Engineering Technology and Construction Engineering Technology programs, you'll begin taking major courses during the first semester of your freshman year.

The Career Center, Learning Center and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources available to you at UNT. The Career Center can provide advice about internships, future employment opportunities and getting hands-on experience in your major. The Learning Center offers workshops on speed reading, study skills and time management. Academic advisors will help you plan your class schedule each semester.

How to enroll at UNT

High school students

We encourage you to fulfill the graduation requirements for the distinguished level of achievement under the Texas Foundation, Recommended or Distinguished Achievement high school program or the equivalent.

In your junior year, take the SAT or ACT and have your scores sent to UNT.

In your senior year, apply for admission at ApplyTexas.org by March 1 and request that your high school transcript be sent to the UNT admissions office.

Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses can count toward college credit at UNT.

Transfer students

If you're attending a Texas community college, you should consult our online transfer guides, the UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor or advisor to review your degree plan. Proper planning will allow you to receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.

Our Transfer Center will help you make a successful transition to college life at UNT by connecting you with a peer mentor and other campus resources. Each year, 3,900 students transfer to UNT.
