Do you have a passion for fashion? Are you creative and full of new ideas? Do you have an eye for color, style and shape? Then, you should pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design at the University of North Texas.
We'll prepare you for a professional career as a fashion designer, illustrator or other design and production positions, such as:
Our alumni are employed in design positions with prestigious companies such as Fossil, the Haggar Clothing Co., Nicole Miller, Ralph Lauren, Zac Posen, Dillard's and Calvin Klein.
Through a rigorous curriculum, you'll discover the skills needed to conceptualize, present and develop finished garments from your original designs. We also provide a thorough understanding of the industry from historical and present day perspectives.

Our annual ArtWear fashion show allows you to showcase your best creations as part of a juried exhibition. The show offers cash awards and serves as the senior exit review.
You'll learn from faculty members who are experienced fashion designers, jurors of exhibitions and active members of professional organizations. You'll also have access to the Texas Fashion Collection, which contains 18,000 garments and accessories from the 19th and 20th centuries. The director, who's also a faculty member, is a nationally recognized expert on fashion design and history.
Fashion houses in Dallas and Fort Worth regularly seek interns from our program, allowing you to receive hands-on experience. Students have also recently interned with apparel companies in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and London.
A Living-Learning Community brings together art and design majors who live on campus to enhance academic and social experiences.

The College of Visual Arts and Design is one of the nation's most comprehensive visual arts schools and one of the best in the Southwest. It's housed in seven buildings, which include classrooms, computer labs, faculty offices, studios, a workshop and a visual resources library.
You'll need to meet the College of Visual Arts and Design's admission requirements to qualify as a pre-major. The college's admission requirements are outlined at art.unt.edu/admission-requirements. These requirements are in addition to the ones administered by the university.
To move into major status, you'll complete the art core, fashion design core, required fashion design courses and necessary portfolio reviews. The fashion design courses focus on:
Our Career Center, Learning Center and professional academic advisors are among the many valuable resources available to you at UNT. The Career Center can provide advice about internships, future employment opportunities and getting hands-on experience in your major. The Learning Center offers workshops on speed reading, study skills and time management. Academic advisors will help you plan your class schedule each semester.
We encourage you to fulfill the graduation requirements for the distinguished level of achievement under the Texas Foundation, Recommended or Distinguished Achievement high school program or the equivalent.
In your junior year, take the SAT or ACT and have your scores sent to UNT.
In your senior year, apply for admission at ApplyTexas.org by March 1 and request that your high school transcript be sent to the UNT admissions office.
Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses can count toward college credit at UNT.
If you're attending a Texas community college, you should consult our online transfer guides, the UNT Undergraduate Catalog and an academic counselor or advisor to review your degree plan. Proper planning will allow you to receive the maximum amount of transfer credits.
Our Transfer Center will help you make a successful transition to college life at UNT by connecting you with a peer mentor and other campus resources. Each year, 3,800 students transfer to UNT.
