Program Overview
The American Culture & Communication Program (ACCP) offers students and teachers from around the world the opportunity to study and practice English at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas. Our goal is to give participants a unique opportunity to learn English and increase fluency through cultural immersion, social interaction, experiential learning, and engagement with the community of UNT, Denton, and Dallas/Fort Worth. Participants will be able to meet and network with UNT faculty and students, explore majors and future careers in the U.S., and learn about attending an American university.
The 2016 ACCP for high school students aged 15-17 years old will be held for a period of two weeks from July 4 - 15, 2016. The 2016 ACCP for university students and teachers will be held for a period of three weeks from July 18-August 5, 2016. English Classes
You will participate in 16 hours of English classes and interactive workshops each week from Monday through Thursday. You will receive individualized attention from highly qualified instructors with years of experience with living, studying, and working abroad.
Morning classes are organized by English level and focus on core English skills including grammar, listening, reading, speaking and pronunciation, and writing.
Afternoon workshops include 1) a required workshop about American culture and oral communication and 2) an elective workshop organized by participant’s interests. This allows you to sign up for different workshop class options such as UNT Scholar, Performing Arts, English Through Film, Presentation Skills, and Business English. See below for a brief description of the required and elective workshops.
US Culture & Oral Communication (Required Workshop) – Students develop accurate speaking, improve pronunciation, and learn about American idioms. They also improve their understanding of American culture and values through group discussions and presentations.
Language and Content (Elective Workshops) – Students study American culture and improve their English language skills. Participants select from one of the following workshop subjects:
- UNT Scholar – Learn all about UNT while practicing oral communication skills in English during campus tours and field trips.
- Professional Development – Develop professional skills using English such as resume and email writing, interviewing, job searching, and creating e-portfolios.
- English Through Film – Practice English while improving listening, learning about culture, idioms, and slang, and discussing American TV shows and movies.
- Presentation Skills – Practice and improve oral communication skills for academic presentations in English.
- Performing Arts – Practice English and get confidence through short drama skits and improvisation.

Cultural Activities
ACCP participants will enjoy many evening activities on campus and around Denton, including sports and games, movie nights and scavenger hunts, conversations with Americans, the Planetarium, and a closing ceremony. There are also many restaurants and shops within walking distance. You will have access to UNT’s fabulous Pohl Recreation Center, Willis library, and computer labs.
We will also have off-campus cultural excursions on Fridays and on the weekends. Some possible places for our field trips are Denton's Square, downtown Dallas, NorthPark Center Mall, Texas Rangers Ballpark, Dallas Cowboys Stadium, and the Fort Worth Stockyards and Championship Rodeo.
Accommodations and Meals
Participants will stay in Traditions and Honors Hall on the UNT campus. A three-meals-a-day meal plan will be provided for each participant. Saturday dinner is not included in tuition cost.
Program Cost
2016 ACCP for College Students & Teachers: $2000
This includes airport transfers, on-campus housing and meals, scheduled classes and activities, and access to UNT facilities.
2016 ACCP for High School Students: $2100
This includes airport transfers, on-campus housing and meals, scheduled classes, chaperoned activities in the afternoon, evening, and on the weekend, and access to UNT facilities.
