REEF Polling

On April 28, 2016, a faculty committee recommended REEF Polling as the centrally supported student response option (click here for complete information on the process). TurningPoint 5 is no longer supported by the vendor and will end at UNT after summer semester.

REEF Polling

REEF Polling provides a easy-to-use solution for both presenters and participants. The committee was impressed with its flexibility, low cost, easy integration with Blackboard, ease of use for presenters, pedagogical features for participants, excellent company support, and speedy results.

Transition to REEF will begin now and continue throughout summer semesters with a full implementation beginning in Fall 2016. For summer, instructors may continue to use TurningPoint or may opt for transition to REEF. There will be numerous options for introduction to REEF, both in person and via webinar to help usher in this exciting new option for classroom engagement.

REEF Education has also recently announced beta rollout of a new free (yes, free!) separate feature - REEF Attendance. This web-based option will allow faculty to set up attendance parameters for a class one time each semester and allows students to check in using their personal devices. No more passing attendance sheets around or calling roll! We will be announcing more about this new feature and its capabilities with the assistance of our vendor representatives.

REEF Polling Adoption Policy

Adding REEF to your course provides students with an engaging and interactive opportunity in class. To take full advantage of all REEF has to offer your students, CLEAR suggests that faculty participate in training one semester prior to adoption. This allows an instructor adequate time to become familiar with REEF's capabilities and to become comfortable with managing the resulting data and integrating it fully in class.

This also helps to ensure compliance with the federal Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008. Effective July 1, 2010, clickers must be ordered on a textbook adoption form according to the following schedule:

REEF Polling Logo Fall adoptions are due to the bookstore by April 1.
Spring adoptions are due at the bookstore October 1.
Summer adoptions are due to the bookstore by March 1.

The Barnes & Noble @ UNT Bookstore provides these forms and manages the deadlines. Students may purchase a REEF license online or from the UNT Bookstore. The license has an ISBN available for financial aid purchases. Please provide this ISBN in your adoption form:

REEF Polling ISBN - Six Month License: 1498600751

REEF Polling ISBN - One Year License: 1498601154

You may include both options for your students.

What if I missed the deadline?

If it is too late to get started in your preferred semester, you may still wish to try out REEF in your class as an added activity or engagement option for students who already have a REEF license. Many instructors have added response technology blended with traditional response options for a semester to help themselves get familiar with the technology capabilities and determine its best fit for their particular courses. This provides a no-required-cost opportunity to learn what enhances your course content and benefits your students.

Get Started

Transform your classroom lecture into an interactive and engaging learning environment with REEF Polling. Also known as "clicker" technology, student response systems enable instructors to more easily gauge students' understanding of course material. Check reading assignments with short quizzes in class and encourage participation from those quiet students in the back of the room. Instantly gauge students' understanding of lecture material as you teach using any materials or programs you wish!

CLEAR is committed to helping you take advantage of technological innovations. We offer in-house training and personal support for faculty who are interested in using REEF. In addition to our services, you have access to REEF Education's extensive training library and technical support options.

Training sessions are offered each semester, both in person and by webinar, and cover implementing REEF, integration with Blackboard for rosters and grading, technical tips and tricks, and report options. Introductory sessions for departments can be arranged on request. Once you start using REEF, personalized support is available - in your office or during class - to help you get the most out of the system.
