Coffey Named To All-Sun Belt Conference Team

DENTON (11/15/06) Catherine Coffey was named to the All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team on Wednesday, making her the fifth Mean Green player to be named to the squad since North Texas joined the SBC in 2000.

Coffey, only a sophomore, averged 2.41 kills per game during the regular season and ranks ninth in the SBC with a .306 hitting percentage. If she keeps up the pace she would become only the sixth Mean Green player to hit over .300 for a season.

After leading the conference in blocks as a freshman, she has already surpassed her 2005 total by putting back 141 blocks this season. Her 1.21 blocks per game ranks her third in the SBC and leads the Mean Green.

Her career-best 12 blocks against FAU still ranks as the best in the SBC in 2006.

Coffey was named MVP of the Illinois-Chicago Tournament in September and to the All-Tournament team at the Mean Green Classic. She was named SBC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in wins over Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and New Orleans in October.

Coffey and the Mean Green will open up the Johnny Carino’s Sun Belt Conference Tournament on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. against division-rival New Orleans.
