Mean Green Drops Regular-Season Finale To WKU

DENTON (11/14/04) -- Unable to overcome a Western Kentucky (24-6, 11-3) offensive attack that hit .485 and recorded 56 kills in three games, the North Texas volleyball team (7-22, 6-9) dropped a 30-15, 30-22, 30-14 decision to the Lady Toppers on Sunday in both team’s regular-season finale.

WKU came out on fire from the start, hitting .500 in the opening game, and went on to record at least a .405 attack percentage in the final two games. North Texas hit a team-high .175 in the second game and finished the match with a .152 attack percentage.

North Texas recorded just 30 digs and the Lady Toppers committed just eight attack errors in 99 attempts, leading to WKU’s high hitting percentage.

The Mean Green was led by sophomore Tara Hooser with 11 kills on a .412 hitting percentage. Katy Prokof added eight and Heidi Johnson posted a team-high 20 assists. Senior’s Anne Pope and Amber Clearman played their final match in the Snake Pit, closing out a career of memorable moments for both players at their home facility.

WKU had three players register double-figure kills, led by Lyndsey Broerman with a match-high 17.

North Texas will enter the Sun Belt Conference Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will play No. 1 New Mexico State at 5 p.m. Thursday in its first match. The SBC Tournament is scheduled for Nov. 18-20 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Should the Mean Green defeat the Aggies, it will play the winner of No. 4 Middle Tennessee and No. 5 New Orleans Friday at 7:30 p.m.
