Mean Green Falls 3-0 To SMU




DENTON (11/10/04) -- The North Texas volleyball team played its final non-conference match of the regular season Wednesday, falling 3-0 (30-19, 30-24, 30-25) to SMU at the Snake Pit.

The Mean Green hit .089 and finished with 32 kills, while the Mustangs posted a .257 attack percentage and recorded 50 kills. NT’s best hitting performance came in the first game at .194, but SMU also posted a match-high .419 in the same game.

The Mean Green was without the services of freshman middle blocker Erica Wendell and senior defensive specialist Amber Clearman due to injury, but used every remaining player on the roster in the match. While no North Texas player finished with double-figure kills, nine recorded at least two.

The Mean Green was led by Brittney Gregory and Anne Pope with eight kills each and sophomore setter Heidi Johnson became the eighth player in school history to record 1,000 assists in a single season. Johnson finished the match with a team-high 22 assists, pushing her season total to 1,007.

NT was led defensively by Jessica Hulsebosch with 10 digs, marking the seventh straight match she has posted double-figure digs.

North Texas will close out its regular season this weekend, playing at UL Lafayette on Friday and hosting Western Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m.
